The Redbirds beat the Reds thanks in large part to Albert Pujols. He hit a 2 run homer (that's him and another guy already on base) in the seventh inning.
Tony La Russa has long been an advocate of pitchers being suspended for hitting a batter. Seems to want the accountability. The pitchers are professional and the idea of "sending a message" by hitting or almost hitting a batter with a near deadly weapon is untenable. The Card's other catcher, Gary Bennett, was struck in the head by a fast ball the other night and had to leave the game. He says he's okay, but the long term impact hasn't been determined.
